Every year now, at one point or another there always seems to be rumors of former WWE Superstar and multi-time World Champion Rey Mysterio possibly returning to the company. Mysterio, who left the company when his contract expired in February 2015, made his last appearance on WWE television on the April 7th, 2014 episode of Monday Night RAW in a losing effort to Bad News Barrett, is currently under contract with Lucha Underground. However, he is only signed with LU through the third season which will air this fall, meaning that his 90-day no compete clause with the company would make him a free agent sometime in December. According to Justin Barasso of Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard, the 42-year old veteran is already negotiating with WWE about a possible return, as well as GFW Impact on a deal. This would be very interesting news as it has previously been noted that WWE has a self-imposed 90-day waiting period to sign talent who has been appearing on television for another company, which we’ve seen evidence of with the reported “imminent” signing of former Ring Of Honor star Lio Rush. Below is an excerpt of Justin Barrasso’s report or you can read it in full HERE:

There is strong incentive for both companies to make Mysterio an offer he cannot refuse. WWE needs a big Latino star, as well as a great ambassador to Latin America. GFW/Impact is very motivated to move away from Alberto El Patron and generate some positive headlines by inking the legendary Mysterio.”
